Movies During The Weekend

Two movies this time, and, actually it wasn't during the weekend, but it also spans last Thursday, which was a national holiday around here, so we watched a movie with the GF.

  • Logan
Mighty mighty good movie.
Simply put: a must see.

  • War Machine
I was expecting this one, and I really, really was hoping that it mighty be ending way better than it turned out to be... Once again, the trailer is better than the movie, IMHO.

Mechanical Rubber Stand Still

I like to have the keyboard as solid and as still as it can be.
Specially my beloved HH keyboard.
Using a couple of old rubber wedges taken from a mop... At least they are black and they certainly keep the keyboard on its place, right?

Carpe Linux (Install)

At last!
Today I've been able to start with my personal Linux chores list..
The W530 now sports a fresh -over an encrypted LVM- Linux Mint XFCE installation.
What a fucking ball breaking deal is configuring a bare bones install to suit your needs...

Movies During The Weekend

Another weekend with only one movie.

  • Mindhorn
Not so good, really. The trailer was way funnier than the movie itself.

Refailmix OS

Testing Remix OS (32 bits) on the T60p.
So far, it doesn't work at all... It reaches the pulsating Remix OS logo, and them simply sits there forever.

Kernel Crud Delete Mode for Stilgar

And now, it's Stilgar time!
Nearly 1 GB of old kernels phasered out to the Phantom Zone!
There is real pleasure in reclaiming disk space.

Movies During The Weekend

Demolition
Really cool one.
We had it in store for quite sometime now, but we managed to watch it this past weekend.
Lately looks like we have somehow good luck when it comes to indie movies.

Mombook

My mother got a Chromebook Flip yesterday.
It replaces a now ancient Dell XPS I gave her (with Linux, of course) a couple of years ago, she seems to be more than happy with her new lappie.
Didn't have much time to tinker with it yet.

Weather Has Left The Building

Since Friday I've noticed that XFCE's Panel Weather Update plugin went kaput.
All across the board, no matter what location I chose...
Damn! Of everything it had to be the Weather thing?? Really??

Master Of Second (Season)

The new season of Master of None it's on Netflix!
A slow, cloudy at times, with the GF away with a friend for the day, ideal time to take a look at this while the GF returns...
I loved the first season, and the first episode of the second, so far, was amazing.
A B&W homage of sorts to Bicycle Thief.

Movies During The Weekend

Last weekend, that is..
Two movies there was, you know? Pretty different each one of them.

  • I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore

Cool one, turned out to be really better than what I expected.

  • La La Land

Yeah, nice, a musical chick flick, with amazing looks.
A big what if ending... You mane it.

Kernel Crud Delete Mode for Tango

And yet another one of those dealing with old kernels getting blasted to the Phantom Zone.
This time on Tango, the little lappie that [somehow] delivers.

HBO Go(es) Nowhere

Well, at least with Linux it doesn't... Both Firefox (as pictured) as well as Chrome fail miserably.
Maybe it's the Argie website kinda of problem, but the thing just sits there, with those pulsating circles, luring you to watch nothing.

Kernel Crud Delete ModeĀ²

Yeap, another combo, although not as combo as last week's.
Still, the battle against old kernels never ends!

Last.fm Takes From You That Extra Year

Don't know why, but finally Last.fm took back that extra 2011 it was giving away for free.
I feel robbed.

This Is What You Get...

When your family and friends know you are somehow a Jawa when it comes to old laptops...
A busted 12 years old Dell Latitude X1.
Too bad the LCD is borked beyond anything good... The lappie, even tho slow and [really] old seems pretty solid, with a decent keyboard, and amazingly sturdy hinges.
This looks actually nice enough to gut the hell out of it, and then stuff inside a tablet or something like that where the [cracked] LCD was...

Linux Chores Are Happy Chores

Or so they say, anyway...
Couple of things I have to do on zhe here boxens:

  • T430:

Make the installation on top of an encrypted LVM
Switch to XFCE
Install Linux Mint 18
It currently has an ancient Linux Mint Cinnamon, and that its a shame, since it is starting to show its age.
And even tho it has an encrypted $HOME install, I feel more confident in having the whole enchilada encrypted, specially on a take out of home lappie.

  • W530:

Make the installation on top of an encrypted LVM
Switch to XFCE
Right now has Linux MInt 18 Cinnamon, but I'm growing fond of XFCE, so..
Once again, the encrypted $HOME feels unsecure.

  • Optiplex 755:

Swtich to a 64 bits install.
It currently has Linux Mint 18 XFCE, but 32 bits, and I want to switch to 64 bits, mostly because of Chrome and then Netflix... Even tho this boxen can only get a hold of 4 GB RAM.
