Binge The Hell Out Of Effing January (2)

Yeap, the binge the fuck out of January while the GF is away goes on and on and on... Not much to do, really, except duck and cover from the animal heat...
  • The Americans
Finished the third season the other day, as opposed as the second as it can be, it actually got really good, it looks like the they fired all the writters and got new ones for the that season.
  • Master Of None
Gulfed down this one in two days (mostly one, actually).
Started reluctantly (not another series, man... Who has the time?).
But it got mighty good as it progressed, somehow funny and heartwarming, I enjoyed like a fucking monkey.
"Nashville" is the most lovely thing I've watched in quite a while, the chemistry between Dev & Rachel is amazing, they really look like they are in love.

Fucking Piece Ultra Hyper Mega Fucking Fuck Summer

The nightmare never ends.
Simply put the worst January of my life, and the little piece of shit MF refuses to die!!! ARRRRGHHH!!!!
Only good thing is that come Wednesday (night), the GF returns home, I'm positive she'll bring love (lots of it), cool weather and Peace to our Galaxy.
Anyways, everyday the sun gets a little less face time... 2 minutes to be precise.

Spannungsbogen Paid Off

Wanted film Or patience, or whatever... And then, maybe.
Last night found a copy (on Youtube of all places, and by pure chance) of a movie that I've been searching for quite some time... Like 20 years or so.
I've mentioned the movie before around here, like, 8 years before [fuck time and fuck perseverance, right?), the movie is Heartbreakers.
I have to say, I thought it wasn't such a big of a deal after all these years
One of the big forgottens of the movie was the music!
Aside from Tangerine Dream's soundtrack it turned out to be quite a (re)discovery... Specially the Coyote & Mancuso tête à tête with Carol Wayne along with Nona Hendryx's Transformation blasting on the background, and none other than the almighty Pat Benatar's "Love Is a Battlefield", which finds its way to a discotheque scene... Certainly cool music.
Like I said on the other post, eight fucking years ago, I always loved LA based movies from that era.

Fucked ^ WiFi After Suspending?

This has been driving me utterly and fucking nuts for the last couple of weeks...
You suspend your lappie, and when you bring it back to life, WiFi doesn't seem to work, or, if it does, you either can't connect to your favorite network, or just can't even find your favorite network at all.
Seems to be a problem that sort of kills WiFi (pretty certain might be a kernel module that goes FUBAR), I've noticed this on different hardware (for instance on the X140e and the X220) and on different Linux Mint versions.
The solution seems pretty simple, I logout from my session before suspending the lappie, so far, it works like a charm, WiFi works A Ok once it comes back from Suspend and I login onto my user.
It might be a PITA having to close all open stuff and logout, but, personally I tend keep nothing up & running on a lappie running on batts unless its a necessity.

Last.FM Does It Again

Music, music and more music...
The GF is still on her European Tour and I'm listening to music like a mean MF, sheltered by every mean available from the brutal Bs. As. heat... Waiting... Underground... Until The Day Arrives...
Anyways, Last.fm got another nice stats page up and running! This time with your last week's stats, pretty much as cool as the one they released for New Year.

Movies During The Weekend

Actually it was just one, went to the movies.
The GF is still away, boredom sort of drills my weekends...

  • Rogue One
I loved it.
Ever since I saw the first trailer I loved this movie.
And it didn't disappointed me at all, Darth Vader's last scene is some amazing fucking epic shit that it needs to be seen.

Don't know, I have a bucnh of episodes to go thru yet, but it pretty much looks exactly like season one, will see...

  • The Expanse
So far a big meh... I have couple of episodes to go, once again, will see...

Change root's Password on Rackspace's Rescue Mode

Login onto the Rackspace webfront.
Go to:
Cloud Servers > select server > Actions > Enter Rescue Mode
Save (like Gold) the dinamically generated password!
Login via SSH using root user: ssh -l root pub.ip.address.of.server
There will be an SSH warning, edit the ~/.ssh/known_hosts file.

Once you are logged in onto the server issue a

fdisk -l

Example:

Disk /dev/xvdb: 21.5 GB, 21474836480 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2610 cylinders, total 41943040 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00021ebb

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/xvdb1   *        2048    41940991    20969472   83  Linux

Disk /dev/xvda: 21.5 GB, 21474836480 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2610 cylinders, total 41943040 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00021ebb

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/xvda1   *        2048    41940991    20969472   83  Linux

Disk /dev/xvdd: 67 MB, 67108864 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 8 cylinders, total 131072 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000

Disk /dev/xvdd doesn't contain a valid partition table

Mount the drive:

mount /dev/xvdb1 /mnt/

Check if this is the correct drive on which you have to actually make the password change: less /mnt/etc/shadow
It has to have the users that already have an account on the server.
This took me a while, all the docs, links and references from even the same Rackspace point you to use the /dev/xvda1 but on my case, I had to use /dev/xvb1, YMMV.

chroot /mnt/

Change root's password: passwd
Exit the SSH session
On the Rackspace page, click on "Exit Rescue Mode".
Login via SSH using the regular user once again.
There will be an SSH warning, edit the ~/.ssh/known_hosts file.
Issue a: su - to become root, use the password you just set and so whatever you have to do being root.

Kernel Crud Delete Mode for Opti

And then it was Colossus turn to flush all those old kernels...
Nearly 1 GB worth of HDD recovered.
No initial error, like happened with Opti a few days ago... Deletion went on without any problem.

Yesterday was the biggest piece of shit day I recall in a long long time.
Something really, frightfully really close actually to the December 2013 Heat Wave.
