Unity: (Maybe?) Once Again...

Some notes from my return to Unity....
Testing it a little bit on my T60.
Now that (finally!!!!!) offers the possibility to have always shown menus on the Global Menu, it suddenly makes a lot of sense (maybe).

  • Kill Caps Lock
Edit the file /etc/default/keyboard
Add this:

  • Extra software
Nothing new here... The usual suspects... sudo apt-get install openvpn openssh-server rar unrar emacs23-nox gip

  • Themes
I can't effing believe there is no builtin GUI on Unity to set the theme you like... You need to install extra software for this???

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme "Yosembiance-Atomic"
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme "Humanity-Dark"

Movies During The Weekend

  • Attack The Block
Kinda funny, witty, nice to watch.

  • Fifty Shades of Grey
What a piece of unfathomable and utterly crap!
A request from the GF... She didn't like it at all either.

  • Let Me In
The best of the bunch, pretty, pretty good movie.
The cinematography is amazing, and for what I've heard from the GF, the American version is way better than the Swedish one.
  • Inherent Vice
I missed this one on the cinema... Too bad, but it is not a real surprise, a long and (sort of) complex movie, it wouldn't last on theatres at all.
Nevertheless, any Paul Thomas Anderson film does worth a two and a half hours of my time any time.

The Smoke (Or Ashes) Are Here Once Again

The Calbuco ashes got here on Friday morning.
It was actually like a very soft & high cloud with a very, very faint burned odour.
Nothing compared to the last time that we had a round of ashes around here...

I Love My Roku

(Or better yet, I love what I get from it...)
Maybe my entertainment tastes are pretty basic or something, but I find what the Roku offers just great, and I mena stuff like PBS (I freakin totally love their documentaries there isn' t a week that goes by without a magnificent documentary on it...) and Crackle (sure, at first it looks like crap, but there gems hidden in there... A lot of great movies and documentaries).
TV Unblock.com helps a lot too, of course.

Movies During The Weekend

  • The Taking of Deborah Logan
A request of the GF... I don't usually watch horror movies, but... You know, she requested it, so...
It was scary, but not that bad.

  • Furious 6
Another request of the GF.
She loved it, and to be honest, I found it quite amusing.

  • House Of Cards
ITOH, we finished the first season, our first TV series as couple :)

Movies During The Weekend

  • Inside Llewyn Davis
A folksy movie.
Nice, kinda funny, but IMHO, the singing parts are a bit too much.
  • Godzilla
That is the one made in 2014...
Starts sort of good, or better yet, I loved the opening sequence & the HALO jump scene near the end.
But overall, the movie sort of, kinda, really sucks.

  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower
This one was actually a request of the GF... A sort of chick flick for teens...

House of The GF

Time for another TV series, I guess...
But this one marks the first one that I'm watching as a couple, that we are actually watching together.
The GF started first with this one, so I had to catch up watching on a rush the first 5 episodes from the first season back to back...
Yes, we are not riding on the wave of the hip and new, since the series is on its third season already, but what a hell, better late than never.

Movies During The Weekend

  • Taxi Driver
A re-watch with the GF. but it was the first time that she saw it, and actually, it was the first time I saw a digital copy of it (thru Crackle).

  • Big Eyes
A total no, boring, a big, yes, but disappointment... Tt doesn't even look made by Tim Burton.
I've struggle thru the whole movie while fighting sleep...

  • Black Swan
The best of the bunch.
Even tho he did Noah, I have to say that I love Aranoksky's work.

Linux Mint 17: gvfs update wants to delete Cinnamon

Don't get this...
The Linux Mint's update process (I'm guessing that specifically the gvfs package is the responsible) wants to delete Cinnamon (and the Cinnamon Screen saver, as well)?
For the moment, I'm putting a hold on that particular update.
