Cinnamon: Lazy MDM theme customization

The quick and dirty guide to get the same wallpaper across your login screen and your Cinnamon session.
I hate that the login screen has a different wallpaper than the one you are using (even on Scientific Linux), so, to get a constant wallpaper on Cinnamon, here is what I did:

cd /usr/share/mdm/themes/linuxmint/
sudo cp background.jpg background.jpg.ORIG
sudo cp $HOME/awesome-image.jpg \\
/usr/share/mdm/themes/linuxmint/background.jpg

Movies during the week

Amazing movies all of them.

Europa Report
The best of the bunch.
Specially enjoyed if watched on HD.

Fire In The Sky
Mostly because of fond memories, it deserved a re-watch after something like 6 years since the last time I saw it.

Miracle Mile
I love this movie, never get tired of re-watching it.

Kitty Kat Android is Here!

Upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat last night.
Everything seems to be working A Ok after the mandatory reboot a couple of suspends and a shutdown.
Unlike the last time I've updated Android, when MX stopped working until it got updated to the work with the newer Android release, this time every app I have seems to be working without any problem after the update.

Another Bacigalupi

Finished The Windup Girl on Monday, and jumped right onto another one by Bacigalupi: "Pump Six" which is actually a collection of short stories.
Along with Mitchell's Cloud Atlas, The Wind Up Girl is the bes Sci-Fi I've read this year.

Return of The Timbuk2

The beast isn't dead yet!
Or at least, it has a new inner skin on its main flap.
And, on top of that, the new darker one looks rather nice.

The current Linux Mint desktop

Another one of those "back to Earth" wall papers.
I was kinda bored with the Linux Mint default grey one.

30K and counting!

Lately I've been listening to my music like crazy or so it seems...
Another thousand up, and, on top of that, I made it to 30 thousand plays, in a little more over the 2 years period.

Like Gibson w/o electricity

Started this one on Sunday.
I'm about 20% onto it (thanks to Kindle's bottom left indicator), and totally and completely loving it.

Nexus 7: Kindle app annoyances

I side load all my books, as I already have those on either pdf or txt format.
Here are a couple of annoyances, other than screen brightness I've already mentioned on a previous post, that I come across:

  • Location/ directories

All the files have to go to the "kindle" directory.
There is no support for sub-directories; I'd like to keep my files nice & tidy, with an author/book tile structure.
This is not possible on the app, the files that are placed onto a subdirectory are simply ignored.

  • TXT files

Unfortunately, the Kindle app don't read those. At all. Really sorry and strange.

Hammer & Zombies

Finished Lucifer's Hammer a couple of day ago, and got to see World War Z last night.
Amazing how fast on both the book as well as the zombie film civilization collapses.

The whiter Kindle it's here

Last Friday got my hands on the new Kindle Paperwhite, the new version.
I love it, the screen is simply amazing, and the thing is ultra hyper lightweight, compared with the Kindle Touch.
Got the version sans 3G, since I've hardly use it with the Kindle Touch, besides, browsing with a Kindle its a royal PITA.
INTOH, the new Kindle Paperwhite has the same problem unmounting the device that the Kindle Touch had.

Kernel Crud Delete Mode for Stilgar

Saturday is here, so its time to delete old kernels on Stilgar!
A measly amount, not even 400 MB, nothing compared to Usul's last cleansing.
