Time to delete old kernels

Last night deleted a bunch of old kernels from Sojourner & Usul, getting rid of 700 + MB of files...

A life with Rhythmbox

Just hit the first important landmark with Rhythmbox... Reached a play count of 2 on all my music files.
Long way to go compared with the play count I got when I was using iTunes and an Apple box.

On Windows 7: No wobbling

Did a quick test this weekend.

Gave the weekend off to Sojourner, and used the old, noisy & hot Thinkpad T43.
So took out the HDD from Sojourner, and loaded the original one that came with the laptop when I bought it, with Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bits) on it.

Of course with Windows 7 running and an external monitor connected there isn't any damn wobbling to be seen...

What you might call a real problem.

DropBox conflicts

Hate when this crap happens...

Isn't DropBox specifically designed to actually avoid this??? Why the hell there is a conflict to begin with??? The whole idea of DropBox is to avoid these conflicts and make the newest file "win"...

The only solution I can think of when I see that something like this happens, and to play it safe, is to actually erase the whole thing on the DropBox server and start from scratch from the source once again.

Giving Chromium (another) chance

That is, another chance in Linux, when I use Windows Chrome is the only browser I use.
So installed it today, mostly to use it side by side with Firefox.
This are a couple of add ons I install right after the browser is up & running.

Autumn

Autumn, at last, yes, is here.
May the summer never come back again.

Currently reading

Yeap, The Battle for the Falklands...
Got it mostly because of the author, the whole Malvinas thing seems really pointless and cruel from my point of view, a wild card that they like to use around here to hide worst -far more worse- things than a war from plain view.

Anyways, as you should expect, the book is really based on the English side of things, and it doesn't seem as interesting as the other Hastings books I read so far.

I'm fed up with war or weapons related books for the moment, next one a Paul Auster one, and in Spanish.

Wetnos Aires, just like that

A freaking torrid day, until, of course, all hell break loose, even a hail storm with golf sized snow balls.
Let's just hope for a nice, windy, cold, autumn from now on.

Like it was the X time

I'm sort of re-watching the X Files' first season, but this time on DVD; I find that whole Netflix thing rather stupid, unless you have to watch something that you positively can't find anywhere else.
It is actually like seeing the whole thing for the first time, it's been such a long, long time...
So far my favorites are The Jersey Devil and E.B.E..

Zeus roars again

Installed Lucid on 120 GB HDD today... Want to give it another try, also, ever since start using Thinkpads, I never seem to have enough higher resolution screen real state to play with, my old Apple Cinema Display works A Ok with the NVIDIA's DVI port.

Things went pretty Ok with the install, had to use a plain vanilla CD, since it was impossible to boot the Zeus beast from a USB.
It took for ever to make the first update, about 400 MB of files...

Another Squeeze

Installed last Sunday on the lovely, heavy, noisy and hot Vaio laptop.
No problem at all during the install, did a net installation, only thing, using the graphical tool doesn't seem to offer the possibility to encrypt the user's home directory.
Of course, one of the first things I've installed it is the Global Menu applet for the Gnome Menu, it worked exactly as it did the last time I tested this.
And, as usual on this lappie, Suspend & Hibernate doesn't work (it only does on Windows...)

A little Gnome 3 faking and I can say that I finally jumped onto the Elementary wagon...
Also using the Clearlooks theme for netbook and the Metacity theme Round-ad.
It does look a little more modern than the other ones I've been using lately.

Cannibalizing the Acer

The Acer TravelMate 2441 is by far the worst, most el cheapo laptop I got my hands on.
Right now there are three things that decided me to say goodbye to it:

  • The temperature, specially around or above where the HDD is stores, just where you rest your right hand when you use the laptop, is amazingly hot.
  • The laptop uses PATA/ IDE HDD, and those are getting really hard to get by, specially -or even tho- I'm on a third world country.
  • Tried to open the laptop to see if the fans were dirty or if they're actually working (the temperature is really annoying) but it was impossible to do so.

So I took out the RAM of it and placed it on Tango, the Compaq el cheapo which compared to the Acer feels like a Ferrari and is cool as ice.
Obviously the RAM boost made quite a difference on Tango.
