Windows 7 on the Compaq F700

Installed on Tango during the weekend and I've been testing it for a while.
Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bits) works A Ok, even tho the lappie only has 1 GB of RAM.

Everything works fine after installing the Compaq driver (the one on the screenshot), which was available thru Windows Update, truly good thing, no need to fish them on the HP page.

After installing those (and a reboot) all the keyboard special keys come to life.
The NVIDIA driver (nicely available thru Windows Update as well) deliver an Aero enabled desktop.

Slanted Adams

Finished watching John Adams a couple of days ago.
Interesting indeed, particularly the second episode "Independence", foubd the the Merlin-like quality that Franklin has on that episodeb.
One thing that I found amazingly annoying is the use of slanted cameras throughout the episodes... To me it looks stupid, like some old Batman TV episode.

Tango dances again

A bit of time off -long weekend- so got to take a closer look to Tango, to see what the hell happened to it.
Turns out the problem was the RAM... Took it out and un again and the thing just works.
Just for the fun of it installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a 250 GB SATA drive, so far thing look good.

Currently reading

Actually, more than reading, I'm enjoying it like a MF Skunk Works.

The second book I read by Leo Janos, the other one was also about airplanes, the biography of Chuck Yeager.
Love reading books when intelligent people tackle really complex problems.

Books during the summer (3)

Of course I've finished Retribution before departing =)
And in reality got my hands of two books during this summer.

Black Hawk Down
The best thing is the new after word by the author, saw the movie many, many times, and read another book by Bowden ages ago, so I was more or less expecting what I found.

Blood Meridian, or, actually Meridiano de Sangre
As a I read it on Spanish... I have to say that I prefer The Road, by a long shot.

The current Ubuntu desktop

Been a while since one of these, so here it goes...

Nothing really changes that much on my desktop... A slightly modified version of Metacity's Shiky Mint (mostly, no borders, and the buttons to the left IIRC...)

RIP, Cosmo

Cosmo Vitelli and Jack Flowers (Saint Jack) two formidable characters for two amazing films (and a hell of a book from Paul Theroux).
My favorite recollection of Gazzara's body of work.

Ben Gazzara, a tough-guy character actor, dead at 81

Don't miss the picture on that link... Friends like that! What a life, man... What a life!

A little (successful) experiment

Which actually made a whole mess (and produced a worst picture...)

The old and trusty Apple Cinema Display hooked to the Thinkpad T140 via DisplayPort... On Lucid Lynx... With NVIDIA's proprietary drivers.
The thing works marvelously.

Got the adapter dirt cheap during the holidays, and it is actually rather nice to know that it is possible to use that hugemongous external monitor on Linux with this laptop.
