Unwanted Ubuntu crud (6)

Another one... Anything as long as I recover a few MBs for the measle SSD HD on Usul

Nice Dropbox update

Dropbox surprised me today with an update on its (rather minimal) GUI.
Really a nice update from Dropbox... It looks beautiful and totally integrated with the Os X "our thing" stuff.

A second shot

Took apart Sojourner today, just to see if the crash problems were gunk related.
Indeed there was plenty of it, to the point that the cooler was almost completely blocked.
Will start using it again to see if I get another crash from it.

Weather Nirvana (again)

After a really rainy & amazingly humid Sunday, skies cleared and the temperature took a nose dive.
With the upcoming Wednesday holiday, things look really good ahead.

A nice, darker Squeeze theme

A screenshot from Squeeze running on Hercules taken the other day...

The theme is called "Dark Looks" and it is a pretty darn good looking Clearlooks variant, obviously a dark one.

This one has the window buttons setup the way, the Os X way, I got used to since I've used Panther for the first time; and also has Gnome Global Menu & Gnome's composite engine enabled.

C'est la vie

You all know how it goes...

Got it for free, with the caveat that "it was working pretty funky"... And by Thor's hammer it finally pulled that trick on me too.
Sojourner, the Dell lappie I got just a few days ago started play rough yesterday with a massive crash, and the same this afternoon, two crashes in less than 24 hrs.

So, it is time to cannibalize the hardware (it has a massive 500 GB SATA HDD, and 4 GB of RAM, that perhaps I can use on Usul).

A caballo regalado no se le miran los dientes.

SU Mystery Theater (30)

A strange, or mysterious one indeed, specially since I don't have any of the programs this update is destined to installed on my lappie.
Did not install, at least yet.

The current Ubuntu desktop

With a lot of inspiration from the latest Debian, I should say... And lot of help from GNOME Colors as well.

Squeeze that Menu

One of the most important, if not the most important, of the "Desktop" programs I use works A Ok on Debian, even tho it is not designed for that distro.

I mean the marvelous Gnome Global Menu, it is not an Appleism, it is simply godd sense, it saves you from wasting screen real state on crappy resolution lappies, period; that's the main reason I installed it on any lappie I get my hands on.

Specially on a lappie like Hercules, the Vaio antique, were the 1024x768 resolutions feels really kinda crowded...

For what I've Googled, in the end used the PPA for Jaunty, and it worked Ok, it printed a couple of funky warning lines upon install, tho:

Squeeze it, baby!

Or Debian 6 on the Sony Vaio PCG FRV37...
Installed last night on the poor & beaten up lappie, things certainly look promising.
Now comes setting up and installing everything they way it has to be...

A (sort of) new baby

Got me a Dell laptop, with some amazing specs... 500 GB HDD & 4 GB RAM.

Of course the little thing is already running Lucid, and of course (this particular model was offered by Dell with pre-installed Ubuntu back in the day) the hardware performs tip top in Linux.

The only things that doesn't seem to be running out of the box are the fingerprint reader, and the webcam, will have to devote sometime in the near future to get those up & running.
