Manic Monday

Is there a better way of starting the week than with a fucking colonoscopy? My second in my 39 years, the last one was four years ago.
At least is winter and it is cold...

Su Mystery Theater (21)

And today it was the turn to update Trantor... No problems at all so far.

Today felt like a bit of Radiance... Without borders on the Metacity theme, of course.

Jawa Saturday

It is cold (for local standards), rainy (for local standards) and humid (for any standard), in other words, it is beautiful here in Bs. As.
So, without anything else to do, got me a Green 753+, a really left over form work (who the hell might want to store this crap for so many years????)
Disassembly it in a jiffy, the HDD is a really small 2 GB, the RAM is inexistent; but the keyboard seems nice, quite sturdy, and has the US layout, definitively a keeper.

The current Ubuntu theme

Once again, Simply Basic... yeah, I'm a bored guy... I know...
But now completely borderless, the way modern themes/ window managers should be, God damn it!
The author gratuitously posted a snip of code to modify its Metacity theme to be borderless, long live the intarweb ;)

iPod erotser

The day was coming, no doubt about that... The little iPod started to belch and cough while playing some songs... Sometimes for minutes... So, in the end, I had to put it to sleep and restart it from scratch...

It was sad, it worked flawlessly since February 2006, but the day was coming.
By far the worst part of Restoring had been to pass all the music, 20 GB, to the newly restored and shiny iPod, all thru the palsy USB 1 of my Quicksilver beauty... 8 hours of grueling Progress Bar nightmare...

Let's see if the whole Restore Thing helps the little iPod a bit... Hopefully it will, because for what I've seen, a regular iPod around here costs 570 U$S for fuck's sake.

Lucid Lynx window shopping

My current infatuation: Simply Basic, a Metacity theme/ window border, that, even tho it has borders, still looks rather cool.

The children of boredom

Just finished, before starting "Accidental Empires", with "The Children of Men"...
By Jeebus, I know that Wikipedia warns you that the movie has substantial differences with the book, but this is ridiculous, the book is a piece of crap, really boring and compared to the movie, it lacks a lot of the "universe" that the movie creates, or at least, suggests.

So many books...

So little time.

But, at least, I got them books with my for the pleasure of thy reading ;) And, on top of the ones written by Beevor, got some others by Hornby, from whom I've read not much really, just "High Fidelity" (after seeing the excellent Frears movie) and "The polysyllabic spree".
The Beevor ones were much anticipated I'm sure I'm gonna eat those two in no time.

Right now I'm really enjoying "Accidental Empires", nothing new, and much of what Cringely writes I've already read about on other books, but it is really funny and acid.

Lucid on the Thinkpad T43 (II)

Found a glitch, luckily it was a breeze to work it out.

The VirtualBox image of Windows 2000 refused to boot after the dist-upgrade, throwing the error message on the screenshot, but, after recompiling the kernel modules -like the same screenshot suggested- the image booted just fine.
Will keep posting if any other problem arises, particularly on this first day of use.

Lucid on the Thinkpad T43

Did a dist-upgrade last night on Viking.
Everything seems to be working A Ok; took about 3 hours to do the whole thing, roughly hour and a half for downloading the changes, and another hour and half for installing those... Everything with no hiccups at all.
The system seems snappy, but not a major difference compared to what Karmic was on the Thinkpad.

Yeap, the thing with the mouse is pretty hard to stop it.

More Lucid Lynx window shopping

Another theme for Lucid, following my current infatuation with the violets and dark themes, also, this one has sort of/ kinda border-less windows, close, but no cigar ;)

The Fall of Berlin

"It was the apocalypse of totalitarian corruption, with the concrete submarine of the Reich Chancellery underworld providing an Existentialist theatre set for hell".

About to finish this one, an amazing book, and currently waiting for the arrival of the one he wrote on D-Day and the one on Stalingrad.

RIP, Billy

I mean, what are they gonna say when he's gone? 'Cause he dies when it dies, when it dies, he dies! What are they gonna say about him? He was a kind man? He was a wise man? He had plans? He had wisdom? Bullshit, man!
