Isn't the winter great?

Fuck yeah! This is how the weather should be all year round here in Bs. As.

Updating for trouble

This is a first one...
Upgrading Lucid on Hercules today got in trouble.
There was nothing that I could to to get things back to normal, not re-running "Update Manager" nor running aptitude from the Terminal.
In the end a reboot fixed thing up.

Border-less Ambiance (3)

Yet another on the Ambiance without borders... I'm a drag, I know.
A before and after on the process of getting the lower corners straight, and getting rid of the borders themselves.

A nice progress bar

Came across this progress bar yesterday while installing stuff on Tango.
Seems really nice, obviously goes along with the Lucid's Ambiance color scheme, but it is thin enough to look cool, or elegant, if you will.

Lucid Lynx window shopping

Three themes for Lucid Lynx that I like (listed in no particular order):

Ambiance Drakfire Mod
Clearlooks Revamp
Dusty Ambiance

Border-less Ambiance (2)

A nice screenshot of my current Metacity modification on Ambiance.
The border-less window seem really sexy.

No updates for you!

Cool looking -and slightly menacing as well- icon informing that there are problem with your Ubuntu updates.
This is a new one for me, haven't seeing it before, the trigger of this is the VirtualBox updates, apparently there is a problem with the updates, since there is a new version available or similar.

Border-less Ambiance

As I have stated before, I really like the new Ubuntu themes, I mean, the default ones, the Ambiance & Radiance one.
But, as usual, and ever since I've started to use Os X, I simply hate windows with borders, so edited the file:

/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml

Like on the screenshot above, to get rid of the borders, and, on top of that, to get rid of the rounded corners on the bottom of the windows (another thing I hate a lot).

The first one running Lucid... I guess there will be plenty of Lucid screenshots on the three years to come.

Lucid Lynx on the Compaq F700

Last Saturday did a dist-upgrade on Tango.
Everything went exceptionally well, no problems at all, nor during the upgrade, nor after it finished.

This was the first dist-upgrade I did on Ubuntu, usually prefer to wipe things clear and start from scratch on every upgrade, but, the MF CDROM on Tango went AWOL, and never returned home, so, I took a chance; this being an LTS, I really doubt that I'll continue to use it for the next 3 years, so I guess I'm covered for the moment.

Regarding Lucid on the little laptop, everything works A Ok, and I mean everything, from the screen native resolution upon installation, to the WiFi to the Suspend/ Hibernate... In fact, Tango seems to have a new life after the Lucid install.

An amazing uptime

Yes, I know, I tend to repeat myself, but I'm truly shocked at this uptime, for a Ubuntu box, a Ubuntu laptop specifically, I find it really amazing.

$ uptime
00:31:12 up 46 days, 21:44, 3 users, load average: 0.57, 0.56, 0.34

Had to postpone a bit the kernel update I linked above, the Canonical server were hammered with Lucid downloads, and getting anything from them was a nightmare... So, the uptime kept actually raising! Until now! Reboot!

Balrog is no more (with me)

Being perhaps a little too busy lately, not much time to post around here on Oesediez...
The other day, about a week ago sold my lovely PB 12", mostly because I wasn't using it at all, so I gave it to someone who will give it a new life and a new love.
It served me well, but I really haven't used it that much, got 400 U$S for it, a nice deal I think, 512 MB RAM, a maxxed HDD with 120 GB, and 2 batteries (one pretty much beat up and the other one a new one, a replacement I got under the Apple umbrella)

Lucid Lynx: Problems installing Wine

I'm still testing this amazing release on the Vaio, everything seems to be working A Ok so far.

Crazy summer once again

With Lucid came summer once again, God dammit!
It was beautiful this last couple of days, and wham, a freaking summer out of the blue.
Fucking Bs As weather, where the hell is the autumn????

Lucid on the Sony PCG-FRV37

Installed it last night, everything went smooth, except for the download speeds of apt while finishing the Alternate install, boy that was slow!, the Canonical server might be in hell throughout this weekend...

I'm still testing it and configuring the little laptop, but one thing stands out, this release is the snappy! Given the crappy specs of the laptop, the thing simply flies on me.
